Why do people get addicted?
People can get addicted to things because of the way addiction affects the brain's reward and motivation systems. When a person engages in a pleasurable activity, such as using drugs , alcohol, gambling, playing video games or even eating processed sugary food, the brain releases a neurotransmitter called dopamine, which creates a feeling of pleasure and reinforces the behavior that led to its release.
Over time, the brain adapts to the repeated release of dopamine and becomes less sensitive to it. This means that the person needs to engage in the behavior more often or in greater amounts to achieve the same level of pleasure they once experienced. This is known as tolerance. When a person stops engaging in the addictive behavior, they may experience withdrawal symptoms, which can be both physical and psychological. This can lead to feelings of remorse, anxiety, self loathing and many other negative aspects of mental health.
Additionally, addiction can be influenced by a combination of genetic, environmental, and psychological factors. Some people may be more susceptible to addiction due to genetic predisposition, while others may turn to addictive substances or behaviors as a way to cope with stress, trauma, or other underlying psychological issues.
The truth is ,help is out there. You have to want it bad enough and be sick and tired of feeling sick and tired.
